Comments: Hey, I watch ACP before work every morning and it's a good show!! I used to watch it when I was younger and I can't believe how many actors started out in ACP. I wanted to see where they all were now and this site had it all, it has a great lay out and great detail about the whole series. Well Done!

While recovering from a cold, was watching a re-run of ACP Irish TV today ( re-runs from the 1987 season )- got to wondering about the show so thanks for the news!
Sad to see 'Cookie' Syd Heylen is now running the big hotel in the sky - met him once at Ayers Rock ( of all places! )

Seeing the guest appearances - didn't Bob Hawke (awwwrrrrr) make a guest appearance about 1985/6?

Keep up the good work! Looks great, and reads great.

Comments: I never thought there would be a site for Country Practice. Shows how sad one can be! I used to love the show when we had it in the UK. Nice to see Matron Slone in Neighbours. What happened to Josephine Mitchell. I think she was in HandA as a cop but nothing since - I loved the character Donna - what every good nurse should be. I remember the episode when they played netball. Why do you think that was? If there is any news of these two actresses could you let me know please? Many thanks

Comments: Just found an old episode on an old videotape, and then found your site looking to see if there was any info on the net about this great series. Here in the UK it used to be shown in the afternoons on local ITV stations. I didn't get to see much, but enjoyed what I saw. Most memorable episode for me was when Donna Manning and Dan Richards were killed in a car crash. For a soap, it was surprisingly well done, the most moving incident I ever saw in a soap. Hopefully we'll get some re-runs over here again one day, I'd love to see ACP again. Great site, well done.

Thank you for your information. Shane Porteous also writes scripts for the Channel Ten soapie, "Neighbours". As far as I am aware, he won an award for the script in which the character "Madge" died.

Mr. Porteous is also a semi-regular on the SBS TV comedy, "Pizza", in which he also plays a General Practitioner....beard included:)

Comments: Dear Paul,

I can't tell you with any authority about when Fatso passed on to the great burrow in the sky, but I do know he lived out his final days at "Featherdale Wildlife Park". The park (which I think is credited in the show for providing the wildlife) is located at Doonside near Blacktown in New South Wales. The park is a wonderful place to see if you ever get the chance. I remember visiting it when I was young and there was a sign on Fatso's enclosure which alerted visitors that they were in the presence of a real life T.V. star.

Dear William,

I don't know if Channel Seven knows anything we don't, however I do know that Shane Porteous has turned his hand to penning scripts for T.V. One particular show being "Home And Away". Therein may lie the connection.

Comments: Hello Again

I have just thought of some interesting trivia that other "A Country Practice" ("ACP") fans might find interesting.

In 1992, in "ACP", Matt Tyler (played by John Tarrant) and Lucy Tyler (played by Georgie Parker) gave birth to a son, James Tyler (name of baby unknown). Shortly after, all three characters left Wandin Valley. As we all know, Shane Porteous was playing Terrence Elliot, a role he played from 1981 to 1993.

Nine years later, in 2001, on an entirely different Australian soapie, "Home and Away", shown on Channel Seven, Shane Porteous made a guest appearance. The character he played on this show was, James Tyler, a school teacher. Does Channel Seven know something that we do not know?:)

I don't suppose anyone knows what happened to Fatso the wombat? I guess he's long gone by now!!

Comments: When the series was being made, from 1981 to 1993 (on Channel Seven) and 1994 (on Channel Ten), I was a HUGE fan of "A Country Practice". So much so, that I wrote to the cast and they responded back with letters in their own handriting. The stars that wrote back included Shane Porteous, Lorrae Desmond, Brian Wenzel, Joyce Jacobs, Georgie Parker, Georgina Fisher, Jamie Croft and Judith McGrath.

In those days, I also collected articles on the show that I affectionately called, "ACP". When the series ended, I was very upset and distraught. I thought that this was the best soapie made on Australian television and it took me years to forgive Channel Seven for axing the series. Even though, I watched "ACP" on Channel Ten, the series was never the same.

Now, I have fond memories of "ACP" and watch the repeat episodes with affection. Since "ACP" ended, the stars have moved onto other projects. For example, Georgie Parker and Judith McGrath have been original cast members on the Channel Seven medical soapie, "All Saints", which began in 1998. Whilst Anne Tenney is now starring in "Always Greener", also on Channel Seven, which began in 2001.

These two shows, which I also like, are what I call "ACP" split in two. "All Saints" is a hospital based drama, whilst "Always Greener" is based in the country. Georgie Parker and Anne Tenney, in their respective shows, are very similar to their "ACP" characters. In "All Saints", Georgie Parker is also playing a Nurse!!

To those of you who were wondering after reading Gordon's transcript, the house used for the hospital still exists. It is called "Claire House" and it's located in Claire Rd, Oakville. A little bit further out than McGraths Hill (which is between Windsor and Pitt Town).

I'll get back to you on a couple of other locations in the future. Everyone keep up the attendance of this site, and keep the pressure on your own T.V. stations to keep A.C.P. on the air forever.

This is a fantasic site and its great to see that the acp is not fading away and is still strong as ever.

I've been watching the series from the of age 7-8 onwards. I lived in the area where the series was filmed and I believe that was part of the magic of the series was the area it was filmed. The Hawkesbury area is a very historic and rural area with lots of charm.

Me and my friends use to point out places where they filmed. I even had the privilage to watch a bit of filming at the primary school I went to.

I have a digital camera, if you are interested in recent photos of the area, I don't mind emailing you some photos.

Comments: Hi Kitty,

Your web site is fantastic!! When I was growing up A Country Practice was my life. I used to hang out from week to week wondering when the next kiss, marriage, medical emergency would be, then that stopped making it in 1993 while I was in Year 11 at school (16 years old) and I was devastated. Channel 7 starting doing replays of ACP late last year and are going to continue them in the New Year 2002 (rang them today to find out why that had stopped, some rubbish about school holidays and the Australian Open!).

Anyway this inspired me to have a look on the Internet to see if any good web sites had appeared and I found yours. It is terrific. I hope you can finish it off one day, but the information you already have is a great. Does Showcase show ACP in Canada still?

My friend and I have been collating a list of our must have episodes, which I’ll forward to you when it is complete and see how many of them you have and if there is anyway I could buy a copies off you. I have a few of the weddings on video and the last episode but that is all. I’m going to start collecting them this year and hopefully I’ll have a whole collection one day!

Anyway, if I can offer any assistance to you in the future regarding your web site or information from Channel 7, feel free to contact me via my Hotmail.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Lisa T.

I am trying to identify the name of an epsiode of ACP that portrays a mother who gives birth to a child with down syndrome; and is consequently faced with the decision of whether to except the advice of the medical profession and give up the child, or the advice of another mother who has a child with a disability, and bring up her child like any other.

The episode ends with the mother, having given away her baby, watching another child with down syndrome riding a horse.

I have some other info that may help to isolate the time period.

1. The show has a scene when the baby is born. Brendan Jones is holding the baby in the delivery room and refers to the child as mongaloid.

Our organisation works with people with disabilities and we are trying to put together a training video. Channel 7 is being difficult about our request and we are exploring other avenues. Do you have any ideas about how we can obtain the episode.

I am unable at this moment in time to become a member of anything let alone that.....but hey it never hurts to ask does it!

It is hard to try to remember in our minds eye the ACP and if all sorts of OLD programming are coming back in leaps and bounds why not that!!!

Comments: Its so great to see people who still love the show i grew up watching, i was and am a huge fan of this show. I fell in love with the jo & michael saga, and until a couple of years ago had the taped copies of the episodes from michaels bike accident to where he and jo left ~sniff sniff~. I can still remember these episodes off by heart. As an aussie it feels good to know that the rest of the world can see the culture we sometimes live by. I wish you all many happy hours of viewing as we don't see the reruns anymore. I am sure if you were to email channel 7 australia they would be able to get you the copies you are looking for - don't ask me their email address, but it's just channel 7 australia. you will know the website when you find it. happy watching.

I found out about this website by accident. i overhead a friend telling another friend that Fatso was a mascot at the Sydney olympics, I was surprised to learn that this guy also watched the prog.
I have just spent two hours wallowing in nostalgia and catching up on the story as I have not seen the prog since about 1993 so I guess it had a few years to run in UK at that time. Thanks for this site, I have bookmarked it and will return frequently.

My interest in ACP grew when I was staying back in Solomon Islands(Near Australia). At first everybody complained that the show is too old and should be taken out of the channel and i kinda agree at first but later on I realized that there is something magical about ACP and I wish i could still watch it today. I would highly appreciate it if someone has links to internet downloads of some of the episodes from ACP.

Thank-you for giving me a dream to go and visit Australia, I am going in the spring of 2001. My most memorable espiode was when my favorite character died (Molly), I taped it and put it away and I will keep that espiode close to my heart. And thank-you to the Actors and Staff of A Country Practice for so much pleasure and sadness. I was sure glad to find the website, and I have it as my wallpaper background on the computer screen. I hope here in Canada we can get the show back again.

I watched it right from when Molly died upto the end, and then was lucky to see the very first series with Marta a few years ago. I, like a lot of fans, really liked the show best with Harry, Kate, Tom and Anna. Unfortunately it has not been repeated on British TV for some years so I was thrilled to find this web site and to read about other fans.

It is the best show in the world. I am only 14 years old but I love it. I missed the epidode where Shirly dies but I am kinda glad that I missed it because I would be cring my eyes out big time. I couldn't stand Luke leaving so I had to leave the room with alot of tissues. I was so proud when Terence asked the guy if he was taking Prednisolone because I take Prednisolone because recently I had a rare disease called Dermatomyasitis (pronounced Derm-ato-mia-sitis) that detiriarates the muscles and inflames the skin. What I don't get is that A Country Practice has to be off in the 2 week holidays. That is so annoying!
Love the show,

I watch "A Country Practice" on Showcase here in Canada as often as I can. It is now going through it's second run, giving me a chance to see the episodes I missed from the first run. Then I started watching just as Jo Loveday joined the cast and moved in with her cousin. I find the show very engaging, and Terrence is quite an exceptionally warm and caring physician. Great show!! Esme alternately annoys me and cracks me up! Shirley is a favorite also. Hello to all fans of ACP in Canada and around the world!

I have recently found your wonderful site, it's really great to relive the series again. It finished in the UK in 1995 and I still miss it. Thankfully, I have some episodes on tape and I watch them often. I even used to run an ACP fanzine called Into the Valley a few years back for fans in the UK - it was very popular. Anyone who would like to e-mail me about ACP please do so, I would love to hear from you. Also, anyone out there have the episodes where Terence proposes to Alex on tape and could send me copies? UK never screened these eps - titled Revelations (pts 1-4) and Tomorrow's News. I would be forever grateful to anyone who can help me. Long live ACP - Wandin Valley rules!

ACP finished in my TV region about 3 years ago- we didn't

to feel sorry for her, she loved it too! I got much stick
for my obsession- finally I've found a site where I can
reminisce about tragedy and comedy, play 'oh yes, I

Comments: I LOVE ACP!!! It is by far one of the best shows I've ever
seen. I love the way it balances the people with the
animals. But the best part is "Shane Porteous". He does
such a great job with the role growing with it until you can
see more of him in it near the end of the series. I am now
just watching the beginning part in Canada as I missed it
the first time. As good as the eps are though, I have to
admit that the real magic is when Terence and Rosemary get
together. Those for me were the best eps.
I also really enjoyed Terence and Esme in their "Pig"
storyline. (That would be when the pig got evicted outside)
You could see the sparks fly from their excellent
performance together. What fun that must have been.

I love all the characters and all for different reasons.
The lack of glitz is so refreshing and done in such a
tastefull intelligent way.

Everything I've read or seen on Acp (most of it on this
excellent site) seems to indicate that the working
environment was very warm and friendly, that is also a real
treat to hear. Good on you!!

Kitty, keep up the wonderful work (in sickness and in
health). We all appreciate you very much for bringing us

this wonderful series.

thought that young miss Kouros was involved (as the abused
child's friend), but Kitty tells me she couldn't have been.

Comments: I just about died & moped around for months and months when ACP was over. I cannot believe I found your site. What a treasure. After reading some of the guest book notes, did I read that we could get videos of the programs? I would also like to know when the program is going to be rebroadcast in Canada. Can we still see it here in the states? Please let me know. I also have taped many, many of the programs & have the last one. What can I do
to help?

Comments: I died and went to heaven when I discovered this site! It's amazing how much info there is available. So what if the show has been officially "dead" since November 22 1993(in Australia) I LOVE IT 6 Years later and still watch the re runs every morning. Any fan please email me, and I will try to answer any questions you may have. LONG LIVE TOM AND ANNA, HARRY AND KATE, MICHAEL AND JO AND MATT AND LUCY, STEVE AND LUKE ETC ETC.

Comments: I LOVE A Country Practice, I watch it all the time at home here in Norway. We've gotten to 1992 in "Wandin Valley-time" so it's sad to know it's comming to an end. The show is very popular here, and I hope they show the whole series over when it's through.

Thanks to Yahoo!Australia, I was able to find what I've been looking for!

Comments: Hi! I got hooked on ACP while living in Australia for 6 months in '87. When we moved back to Canada I thought I'd never see the show again. Seeing it again last year rekindled my love for the program. Even better finding this site and realizing that other people felt the same way. I can now watch all the episodes or get feedback from your site. Well done and keep up the good work.

Comments: Excellent page! ACP was my favourite show growing up and I have recently been able to catch up on a few old episodes, they are repeated daily here in Australia. We are currently up to the show where poor Shirley dies :0( The high school used in ACP is actually Windsor High where I used to attend. We often got to take part as extras (in walkathons, as bus passengers etc). It was such fun and the cast were lovely. Managed to get a few autographs too!
Keep up the good work!

Comments: Finally found a site dedicated to the only Australian soap shown in the UK that I actually enjoyed watching! - unfortunately, we no longer get ACP (probably considered too tame nowadays!).
Good site - must have taken a lot of time and effort!

Comments: Lovely site which I have enjoyed very much! I assume you are Canadian and as an Australian I can say that you have indeed captured the spirit of a great show.

Repeats of ACP are currently being shown every weekday morning down under and I am really enjoying reliving each moment! It will soon be over however, and your site will be the best place to catch up!
